What type of yoga will we be practicing?
We will be practicing vinyasa flow and yin yoga. Vinyasa flow links postures and breath work in a movement based class. Yin yoga involves staying close to the ground and holding poses to allow our harder, tighter tissues to open up.
What if I've never practiced yoga before?
Yoga is for everyone! Yoga is not about touching your toes or twisting yourself into a pretzel. It's about connecting to your body and your mind. It's about tapping into your breath and listening to determine what you need. It's about moving and breathing in a way that feels good to you. There will be many options given to allow for all levels of practice. This weekend is suitable for everybody however you must be able to move from a seated position on the ground to standing without assistance.
I have injuries or am recovering from an injury. Should I attend?
There will be lots of options to vary poses to allow you to participate but please ensure you have your doctor's approval before signing up.
What do I need to bring?
Your sense of openness to trying new things ;-)
A yoga mat, blanket and water. If you don't have mat let me know and I can provide one.
Many warm layers as we know the weather in Newfoundland can be unpredictable! We may hike in the rain so be sure to bring a raincoat and proper footwear.
What about if the weather isn't nice that weekend?
We have St. Patrick's Parish Hall in Tilting arranged as a back up. In the past three years, we have only had to use this backup space twice. Rain will be the only thing that will keep us from practicing outside and we may still do the hike in the rain with yoga to follow inside. If it's cold, wear lots of layers and we will discover how to create our own heat!
I do not have anywhere to stay on Fogo Island. Any suggestions?
A quick google search for Fogo Island accommodations will return a number of options. Some places to start are:
• Town of Fogo Island
• Trip Advisor
The classes will be held around Tilting and Joe Batt's Arm so staying in those areas would mean less driving across the Island. But of course staying anywhere on the Island is suitable.
What if I pay but cannot make it?
The registration fee is non-refundable but you can find someone to take your place.
